History
Tikamgarh district lies in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh.The early history of Tikamgarh district is however not chronicled, though as suggested by the numerous ruins of buildings and other old remains lies scattered at various places, viz Barana, Lidhoura, Digora, Mohangarg, Baldeogarh and Tikamgarh, it must be having a glorious past.
The district was the part of vast empires successively ruled by the Mauryas, the Sungas and the imperial Guptas. It was in the first quarter of ninth century A.D., that Mannuka founded a new dynasty the Chandel dynasty in this area. Tikamgarh alongwith Khajuraho and Mahoba formed part of extensive Chandel Kingdom.
The Khangras also held this region specially around Garh Kundar. The rising power of Bundelas in this region resulted into the downfall of the Khangras. The Orchha records trace the descent of the Bundela Kingdom of Orchha from Garh Kudar chiefs of Benaras Hemkaran, also known as Pancham Bundela.
On going into the history of the judicial system of Tikamgarh district, the facts come to light that after Gadhkudar, Orchha state has been a very important princely state of Bundelkhand. Regarding justice, Mr. Veersingh Ju Dev, who ruled from 1605 to 1627, was the first in the judicial system and justice delivery. Be famous for doing. Orchha has been the state court since 1947, and the treasury of Orchha State was established in the fort of Tikamgarh and the treasury officer at that time was Mr. Daryaavsingh ji.
In the year 1913 to 1914, Kunwar Bahadur Saheb was Civil and Session Judge, Shri Mahavir Prasad also served as District Magistrate and Shri Syed Mohammad Abbas and Shri Hakim Siraj ul Haq were also posted as First Class Magistrate and Munsiff in Tikamgarh.
At present, District Court, Special Court, Family Court, Consumer Forum Link are functioning at District Tikamgarh Headquarters, apart from this, Tehsil Courts are also functioning in Jatara, Niwadi and Orchha.
